therapy is good...

4/8/22

yesterday was my first day back to therapy with a new therapist. it was so refreshing to have a new look and new face to talk to.

the last time I was in therapy, I was unmedicated, extremely anxious, overwhelmed and overall just not comfortable.

this time was completely different. I was comfortable, I felt like I'd known this lady my whole life. granted, it was my first appointment, so my feelings can always change, but from the time I met her, I just felt relief.

and most people say "your therapist should be like your best friend" and I think that is true. you should be able to talk to them as if they've known you your whole life. you shouldn't feel judged by them, and they should be accepting of anything that you might say, even if they don't 100% agree.

what I look for in therapy is an outside person that is neutral to my life, opinions, and behaviors. simply just someone to bounce ideas off of and maybe even vent to sometimes. because they have no ties to anything going on in my life, it's easy for them to look at it in an unbiased way. they can offer ways to cope with your thoughts and feelings, while offering beneficial life changes.

I am not someone that easily opens up to others...I am definitely someone that keeps emotions and thoughts to myself rather than spilling them to just anyone and everyone. but as soon as I met this lady, I felt safe and comforted and didn't feel any sort of shame because of the things that I was saying.

therapy isn't just for those who have a "problem" or severe conditions. I think that everyone should go to therapy and have that time to spend with someone that can help ease whatever it is going on in your life. I think it's important to establish a relationship with a therapist before you condition worsens, so that way, if and when your condition worsens, you have that person to go to.

they are working to help you be a better version of yourself. it doesn't matter if you are severely anxious or depressed or just a little bit of one of the other OR maybe not at all. they work to provide others with a sense of control and ability to handle daily life, whether or not you think you may need it or not.

if you are able and have been considering it, try it out. you may never know how much it could help you if you don't try it.

be patient, most therapists are booked up for months, so you may be put on a waitlist. you may have to try multiple therapists until you find one that fits you.

trust me, it is worth the wait to get someone that fits you.

keep going and keep up the good work, you're doing great(:
