holiday gift guide: part 2

hi cherubs!!

today's post is going to be similar to holiday gift guide: part 1, but focused more on those dealing with depression.

while some of the things might be the same, some will be new!

I hope you stick around and check them out and maybe even get a few ideas for those you need to buy for!!

like before I will categorize them as best I can to help you out!

depression by definition is the feeling of disinterest or sadness for two weeks or more at a time. many people must be treated for it and that's okay, but some can self-manage.

if you or someone you know is dealing with depression, please reach out. resources are always at the bottom of my site :)

now, the moment you've been waiting for:::

what to buy people with depression:

journaling/books/planners:

  • daily gratitude journal--something to keep routine and make habits, often you don't realize how much you have to be grateful for until you sit down and make an effort to think about it

  • mood tracking journal--another thing to make habits and track your moods. helpful to see if you're getting any better, remaining the same, or maybe even getting worse.

  • self-love journal--it's important to realize that even if you deal with depression, you are still human and deserve love, not only from others, but from yourself too.

  • a planner for the coming year (can you believe that it's already almost 2022??)--planners are always helpful to remember appointments, assignments, and work schedules,, I know they definitely help me a lot, plus there's so many options to choose from.

  • recovery diary--if you've already been diagnosed with depression, that doesn't mean it lasts forever. one of the most helpful things to do is to track your progress. then you can go back and reflect on how much growth you've accomplished.

relaxing time:

  • essential oils and diffuser--essential oils specific to helping with depression are: rosemary, rosewood, sage, and sandalwood among others. just having a diffuser and letting these oils fill the air are beneficial.

  • essential oil diffuser necklace--these are so interesting! if you find a scent you really like you can even wear it! they also make diffusers for your car too!

  • books--many times, books give us a sense of another world, different from our own. books are the one thing that can distract me from dealing with daily life and there are so many options out there. here are a few of my favorites::

  • light therapy lamp--most people dealing with depression don't have the motivation they need to do daily tasks. this therapy lamp helps with depressed moods and gives a sense of sunlight when you can't necessarily go outside.

  • fuzzy socks--who doesn't love fuzzy socks!! so many options and very personizable! (I don't think that's a word lol)

  • comfy pj's--often those dealing with depression don't have the motivation to shower or even change clothes. when the depression mood settles in, at least you can have a comfy set of pj's to lounge in

  • movie box set--okay, maybe I sound very dated for putting this on the list, but it sounds really cool to me!! if you know someone that loves a certain movie/show (and they have a DVD player or ability to play them) this would be the perfect idea. if not you could look into a streaming subscription such as Netflix, Hulu, or HBO Max

  • wearable blanket--blankets are some of the most comforting things out there. what's even better?? one that you can wear!!!

  • chunky knit blanket--these are all the rage right now for good reason too. chunky knit blankets are the ultimate comfy item and they are super easy to make. if you're crafty, I would totally suggest making these for gifts! lots of local people I know are making them too, so reach out and see if you can support someone local before buying online or in-store.

  • chocolate--often when we are sad all we want is comfort food, why not some chocolate?? (unless of course you don't like it, you can always get something else)

fun things:

  • plants--I've been into plants for a while now. they are pretty easy to take care of and don't take lots of maintenance, just make sure whoever you are buying for has a nice sunny place to keep them! (link takes you to options on amazon, but there's always department stores and Walmart usually has some too)

  • food subscription box--like we've mentioned before, most of the time those dealing with depression have trouble doing the most basic tasks. this is a wonderful gift and they usually come with the portions already given.

  • puzzles--just like books, puzzles are mind-numbing activities that give you a break from reality. they are perfect for any age and any person.

  • hand lettering/calligraphy guide--I want to learn so bad, but I am not very good. but this is a good activity book just like books and puzzles to distract someone from their thoughts.

  • healing jewelry--just like how we talked about healing crystals in the last blog, this is the same, but wearable!! very unique and interesting if you know someone who is into them.

  • water bottle--so maybe it's just my generation, but many people have an "emotional support" water bottle. you know? the one you carry around every single day, probably needs washed, and most likely have collected stickers to put on it? yeah, that one. get someone a new one!!

  • pinch me therapy dough--this might go along with anxiety more, but it's something to hold and play with as a fidget or distraction from your thoughts.

  • dammit dolls--disclaimer: not for everyone. but the idea behind them is great for those who need a de-stressing mechanism. also can be called darn-it dolls for those who prefer clean-er language.

  • jar of smiles--a cute little jars of jokes, quotes/sayings, memories, etc... that you can either make or purchase. a cute little idea to temporarily distract someone and brighten their day.

I hope that this list provided you with some ideas of what to get someone!

I know that I provided lots of links to amazon, but please remember to shop local if you can. locally made items and handmade items are a lot more sentimental than just something that you randomly pick up from the store.

be thoughtful when buying, I know it's time consuming, but it's more meaningful this way.

but anyways, I hope you guys liked this little segment of blogs, I hope they were helpful.

it's almost christmas!! t-minus 16 days!!

xx Loryn
