end of the year reflection

12/30/22

oh 2022, what a wild ride it's been...

we've seen so much and I don't really know how to process the fact that another year has come and gone so quickly...

I hope this blog helps all of us to reflect on what we've been through and accomplished this year!

good morning cherubs, I cannot believe this year is coming to a close. this has been such a good year for mental health awareness! I am glad that I've been able to work on providing you guys with the resources to better not just yourself, but others too (:

but endings don't necessarily mean bad omens, just that we get to start fresh! a new year means new beginnings, new plans, and new opportunities.

here are some inspirational quotes about endings:

"remember: some things have to end for better things to begin."
"it's the end of the year. it's the time to pack up your mistakes, problems, negativity, pain, along with the old you and ship them off to where the past exists. the new you is arriving at any moment now, bearing a new challenge, a new unknown, new gifts, new chances, and a new year."
"what feels like the end is often the beginning."
"you are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."

reflecting the past year is a good way to appreciate what this year has provided you, here are some ways to structure your reflection:

  • reflect on different areas of your life

  • answer some questions in each area of your life to plan for the future

  • choose a free day, spend some quiet time, and reflect

I found this super cool 15 questionnaire to be able to reflect on this past year. grab a piece of paper and jot down your answers!

  1. one word to describe your year

  2. best thing you did for someone else this year

  3. favorite movie of the year

  4. favorite show of the year

  5. most embarrassing moment of the year

  6. time you laughed the hardest this year

  7. something you learned to do

  8. most newsworthy event

  9. biggest lesson learned

  10. favorite place you visited this year

  11. most memorable moment or day

  12. best advice you received this year

  13. an achievement you're proud of

  14. reminisce on one great accomplishment this year

  15. what are you most thankful for this year

now if that's not enough reflection, here's some more question to jog your memory and make you think:

pick a certain area of your life to reflect on and answer these questions:

areas could be: personal life/mental health, work life, education, or relationship based!

  1. What is your overall feeling about this area? Did you improve compared to last year?

  2. Did you have any success? What are your wins?

  3. What helped you to achieve these things?

  4. What are you grateful for in this area?

  5. Did you have any challenges? And how did you deal with it?

  6. Did you fail in anything? Do you feel disappointed about something?

  7. What should you should still work in this area?

  8. What lessons did you learn? What could you do better?

  9. How do you imagine this area should be? And where are you now compared to that?

  10. What will you do next year to make this area look like how you imagine?

at this point in the year, it's time to prepare for the new year. doing a cleanse of your space, life, and environment is one of the best ways to help you mentally and physically welcome this new year.

cleanse for the new year:

body:

  • research fruits & veggies that are in season

  • ease into new sleeping patterns & daylight shifts

  • cook a plant-based meal

  • embrace seasonal activities for natural movement

  • practice deep breathing when you wake & before you go to sleep

  • do a full body check-in, notice where you are holding tension and release it

mind:

  • journal regularly and create seasonal affirmations

  • do a social media cleanse: unfollow & mute

  • create a season playlist

  • create a seasonal bucket list of things to bring joy

  • using sensory details, make a list of your top 10 favorite aspects of the current season

  • make a seasonal book list and borrow from your local library

  • speak to yourself with kindness

space:

  • deep clean living space to release stagnant energy

  • declutter & release unused objects with gratitude

  • bring natural seasonal scents into your living space

  • organize for clarity and calm

  • take note of where and when natural light enters your space

  • store away any past seasonal items in an organized way

soul:

  • check in with yourself often with seasonal shifts

  • celebrate daily wins

  • honor needs for rest, affirmations, softness, and play

  • plan times to connect with your community in real life, away from the screen

  • write a letter to yourself ten years ago. then one to yourself in ten years

  • pay for a stranger's coffee

  • leave a post-it with encouragement on a park bench

now that we have found ways to prepare for this new year coming our way, how can we make sure we manifest these things into existence?

here are some prompts to help you focus and imagine and successfully implement these manifestations:

  • this season I want to feel...

  • this season, I am actively manifesting...

  • things, ideas, and stories that I'm ready to put down this season include...

  • what do I need to pick up or shift this season to be my most honest self?

  • what desires are arriving in my during this current season of life?

  • what do I want to make more time for? what daily shifts might I make to create this time?

  • what parts of you or stories within you are asking to be seen and known during this season?

  • where do I fully trust myself in this season of life? where am I doubting myself?

  • what narratives that I tell myself am I ready to rewrite this season?

take the time to answer these prompts and solidify the ways that you are going to carry them throughout this coming year.

you are the only one that can hold yourself accountable and make sure that these things happen!
